Margaritas and Mexican Food

Normally, I would only enjoy a margarita when we would go out to eat at a Mexican Food restaurant. I mean chips and salsa and margaritas just go together like wine and cheese, beer and pretzels, or salt and pepper!

However, since we are staying home more and are not eating out as much, I wanted to recreate the fun, festive Mexican dinner. So I decided to make my own margarita at home. However, one of our favorite restaurants makes this awesome peach margarita. It is sweet, tart, and a little spicy, and amazingly delicious! I knew I had to make one at home!

Why Make Make Your Own Margarita

One of the nice things about making the margarita at home is that you can customize it just the way you like it. You can choose the type, quality, and brand of tequila you like and not have to rely on the house tequila that a restaurant uses to maximize profits and not to maximize taste.

The other fun way to customize your margarita is to add fruit like this peach margarita, or a mango margarita or strawberry margarita!

To make it more fun, we spice it up with some sliced jalapeños so you get that spicy flavor added to the sweet and tart flavors.

  • Muddler
  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Margarita Glasses
  • Pitcher
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients Needed:

Below I discuss the ingredients that make this meatloaf unique. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of all of the ingredient, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.

  • Tequila. This ingredient is key to the flavor of the margarita. The better quality of the tequila, the better the margarita. Use your favorite tequila.
  • Fresh Lime. You will need lime juice. I highly recommend juicing a fresh lime for the best flavor. However, you could use store-bought lime juice.
  • Peach Nectar. You can make your own peach nectar by blending fresh peaches with water and sugar, or use a good store-bought peach nectar like Jumex.
  • Triple Sec. The Triple Sec gives that margarita that orange citrus flavor. However, if you don’t have any, you could use orange juice instead.
  • Jalapeño. Spice things up by add a few sliced jalapeños to your peach margarita.
  • Sea salt. If you like to salt the rim of your margarita glass, then you will need need this sea salt.

Directions:

  • Prepare your glass rim by rubbing a slice of lime over it and then dip into sea salt and add ice.
  • Add jalapeño slices and lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Muddle 5 – 10 seconds.
  • Add ice and pour remaining ingredients into the cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously 15 – 20 seconds.
  • Strain into prepared glass.
  • Garnish with additional slices of jalapeño or a peach slice and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Jumex makes great peach nectar.
  • Try orange juice instead of triple sec.
  • Add more or less jalapeño depending on desired spice level.
  • To muddle means to press the ingredients against the side of the glass with a Muddler.

What To Serve With Spicy Peach Margaritas

Serve them with Mexican food, lots and lots of Mexican food. Here are a few of my favorites.

  • Homemade Tortilla Chips – These are delicious but they are not fried. Instead they are baked until crispy!
  • Pico De Gallo Salsa – The perfect partner to go with tortilla chips and margaritas!
  • Fresh Peach Salsa– Get more peach flavor with this zesty peach salsa.
  • Blackened Fish Tacos – Perfect with a margarita!
