Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Stunningly Beautiful – The dragon fruit gives this cocktail a bright pink color, and when you garnish the dragon fruit cocktail with a mint sprig and lime wheel, it dresses it up to make this gorgeous drink.
  • No simple syrup. While many drinks use simple syrup, this one uses simple cane sugar.
  • Delicious. You’ll love the taste of this beautiful mojito.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Easy To Make – With only a few ingredients for the mojito and 2 for the optional garnish, it is very easy to make this Dragonfruit Mojito.
  • Step By Step Photos – I provide detailed step-by-step instructions with photos for each step.
  • Recipe Tested – This recipe was well-tested. It’s funny how I had so many volunteer taste testers for this cocktail recipe. 🙂

Ingredients

Below I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions in case you don’t have a specific ingredient. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.

Overhead view of ingredients in individual glass containers on a white marble background. Each ingredient is labeled with a navy blue label with white text. Ingredients include frozen dragon fruit, club soda, white rum, ice, mint leaves, sugar, and lime.
  • Frozen Dragon Fruit Cubes – You can buy frozen dragon fruit cubes at the store. Target, Costco, and Amazon carry them if you can’t find them at your local grocery store.
  • Lime Juice – I like to use freshly squeezed lime juice, but bottled lime juice would also work.
  • Sugar – I used plain white sugar, but you could also use simple syrup.
  • Clear Rum – To get the beautiful pink appearance of this mojito, I use clear rum. I don’t recommend using dark rum because it will change the drink’s appearance.
  • Mint Sprigs – You can use these in the drink and as a garnish.
  • Lime Slices – Use lime slices as a garnish.

How To Make Dragonfruit Mojitos

A 6-photo collage showing 6 numbered photos, each one showing one step in the process of making a dragon fruit mojito.

Remove the dragon fruit from the freezer and let sit for 10 minutes before using. (Not shown in photos.)

  1. Place dragon fruit cubes at the bottom of your highball glass.
  2. Use a muddler to soften the cubes until you get some juice out of the cubes and the dragonfruit is smooth.
  3. Add in the mint leaves, and continue to muddle the dragon fruit and mint together until you have released mint oils.
  4. Continue by adding the sugar and lime juice. Continue to muddle the ingredients together until you have a semi-frozen mixture and the mint has released its oils.
  5. Add in the rum.
  6. Mix with a bar spoon.

Recipe Tips

  • Availability – You should be able to find frozen dragon fruit cubes at large grocery stores, as well as Target, Costco, and Amazon.
  • Plan Ahead – If you can’t find them locally, you can cut up the dragon fruit and freeze it ahead of time so that the frozen dragon fruit cubes are ready when you are ready to prepare the mojitos.
  • Clear Rum – To get the beautiful color of this mojito, you must use clear rum and not gold rum, dark rum, or black rum.
  • Don’t Skip The Garnish – Since these dragon fruit mojitos make such a pretty presentation, don’t skip the garnish because it adds to the drink’s beauty.

Mojito Variations

  • Classic Mojito – Leave out the dragon fruit and enjoy the traditional mojito.
  • Dragon Fruit Mocktail – Leave out the rum, and replace half of the club soda with coconut water.
  • Dragon Berry Mojito – Use Dragon Berry Rum instead of white rum.
  • Passion Fruit Mojito – Use passion fruit instead of dragon fruit.
  • Mango Mojito – Instead of dragon fruit, use Mango instead.
  • Watermelon Mojito – Instead of dragon fruit, use watermelon instead. As you can see, you can use your favorite fruit to create your mojito.
  • Cucumber Mojito – Use cucumber-flavored vodka instead of rum.
  • Coconut Mojito – Add one ounce of cream of coconut to the mojito.
