If sunshine had a flavor, it’d be this.☀️

This Frosted Lemonade recipe 🍋 is my take on the iconic Chick-fil-A treat—and you’ve got options.

Want a 2-minute blender miracle with just two ingredients? Done.

Want to level it up with a bold, homemade lemon syrup that brings the tart-sweet realness? I got you.

I initially created it to save money after making too way many trips to the fast food restaurant to buy this summer treat, and then perfected it after making it a gazillion times.

This is summer in a glass—creamy, zesty, cool, and customizable. Whether you’re making a quick weeknight sip or prepping a boozy batch for a backyard hang, this recipe is fast, flexible, and guaranteed to cool you down and wake up your tastebuds.

Why You’ll Love This Frosted Lemonade

💛 Two Ways to Make It – Fast or flavor-forward. Pick your path.
🍦 Creamy + Tart – Ice cream meets fresh citrus for the dreamiest texture.
🕒 Quick as a flash – Blend, pour, sip. That’s it.
🍹 Party-Ready – Make it boozy. Make it a popsicle. Make it yours.
💰 Budget-Friendly – Skip the drive-thru. Get that restaurant flavor at home.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Quick Version (2 Servings):

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup lemonade (store-bought or homemade)

For the Elevated Version:

  • ½ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 8 scoops vanilla ice cream (about 2 cups)

👩‍🍳 Pro tip: Use Blue Bell’s French vanilla for extra richness or go dairy-free with your favorite alt-ice cream.

How to Make It

✨ The Super Fast Way:

  1. Add ice cream to a blender.
  2. Pour in lemonade
  3. Blend until smooth.

💥 The From-Scratch Upgrade:

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Simmer until sugar dissolves (about 5 minutes). (Photos 1 – 3)
  2. Let cool, then chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  3. Blend syrup with ice cream until smooth. (Photos 4 – 6)
  4. Serve immediately—sippable sunshine in a glass.

Flavor Boosts & Fun Twists

🍋 Add lemon zest for a more intense citrus kick
🍓 Toss in a handful of frozen berries for a berry lemonade twist
🍸 Booze it up with a shot of vodka, rum, or limoncello
🥥 Make it dairy-free with coconut milk ice cream
🍧 Pour leftovers into popsicle molds for frosty treats

FAQs

How do I make it thicker?

Add more ice cream or freeze your lemonade into cubes first!

Too tart?

Use a little less lemon juice or add a splash of milk to mellow it out.

Can I make it ahead?

You can prep the lemon syrup in advance, but blend just before serving for best texture.

Notes

Recipe Tips:

  • Simple Syrup Tip. The lemon simple syrup made from this recipe is concentrated so I don’t recommend drinking it on its own.
  • Serve Immediately. You will need to serve this frosted lemonade immediately once made otherwise it will melt, even when stored in the refrigerator. While a melted version of this drink will still taste great, it’s the thick texture of the cold ice cream that really makes this drink super special!
  • Partial Make Ahead. The lemon simple syrup can be made a few days in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This is a great option when planning a party and trying to reduce some of the recipe preparations.
  • Leftover. If you do have leftover frosted lemonade, pour the mixture into popsicle molds for some delicious frozen treats for the kids.
  • Water Type. You can use filtered water from home or bottled water. The water is going to be heated on the stovetop but always be mindful of the source of your water when adding to ingredients.
  • Double or Triple It. This recipe serves 2. If you intend to serve this frosted lemonade to a larger crowd, simply double or triple the recipe ingredients. You can adjust the number of servings in the recipe card at the bottom of this post, and it will automatically calculate the amount of ingredients that you will need.
