The sweet and spicy flavors of the mango and jalapenos transform a good margarita into a great margarita.

Why You’ll Love This Copycat Chili’s Mango Margarita

  • Sweet and Spicy. You’ll love the sweet and spicy flavor of this sweet margarita, made with mango, and made spicy with jalapenos. The mangos, jalapenos, lime juice, and tajin make a perfect combination.
  • Easy To Make. Combine frozen mangos, tequila, mango juice, lime juice, and jalapeños in a blender. Dip the rim of the glass onto a plate with tajin and salt. No worries, step-by-step instructions are included.
  • Simple Ingredients. Use fresh organic mango or frozen mango, tequila, lime juice, and jalapenos. If you want to add a spicy, salty taste to the rim, add Tajin seasoning. You can likely find all of the ingredients at large grocery stores and liquor stores.
  • Adjust Spice Level. If some like the spicy margarita and some want a straight mango margarita, it is easy to adjust the spice level by just blending all ingredients, except the jalapenos. Pour some of the margarita mixture into the number of glasses you need, and then add the number of jalapenos for the level of spice you prefer. See the recipe tips below for more ways to adjust the spice level.

Below I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions in case you don’t have a specific ingredient on hand. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.

  • Mangos. I used frozen mangos because I think that is the easiest. However, you can use fresh mango or frozen mango as either one will work. I recommend using organic mangos if you use fresh. If you want a frozen mango margarita, then use the frozen mangos.
  • Mango Juice or Mango Nectar. I recommend using organic mango nectar for the best taste.
  • Tequila. Use your favorite tequila in this spicy margarita. A popular option is reposado tequila. Another option is silver tequila or tequila blanco.
  • Fresh Limes. You’ll need about 1 ounce of fresh lime juice. The lime juice adds a nice acidic flavor to offset the sweetness of the margarita. I like to use fresh limes to get freshly squeezed lime juice. Then I cut up the other limes into wedges and use the lime wedges to rim the glasses. I also sometimes add a slice of lime as a garnish for the margarita. I also use the lime zest as a garnish as well.
  • Jalapeños. I recommend using fresh jalapeño instead of pickled jalapenos or jarred jalapenos. The jalapeno slices can also be used as a garnish.
  • Tajin Seasoning. I like to use the Tajin chili or Tajin seasoning to rim the glasses and as a garnish on top. If you like a lot of the spice, then you can change the name of this margarita to chili mango margarita. You could also just use regular chili powder if you can’t find the Tajin.
  • Salt. Salt is used to rim the glasses. However, it is completely optional. So you can leave out the salt altogether if you prefer.

How To Make Spicy Mango Jalapeno Margaritas

  1. Place your tajin and salt onto a flat small plate. Mix until combined.
  2. Use a wedge of lime to moisten the rim of your glasses. Dip the edges of the rim of the glass onto a plate with tajin and salt. Set aside.

  1. In a blender, add the mango, tequila, mango juice, lime juice, and jalapeño.
  2. Once you have the glass ready, pour the frozen cocktail into a margarita glass and garnish it with a lime slice or slice of jalapeño.

Recipe Tips

Chill Out. Chill the glasses before starting to make the margaritas.

Spice Level. If you don’t like your margarita spicy, don’t worry. With this margarita, you can adjust to your preferred spice level.

  • First, you can leave out the jalapenos altogether if you don’t want any spicy heat.
  • Secondly, If some guests like spicy and some don’t, make a non-spicy mango margarita with no jalapenos first, and then you can make a second batch with jalapenos.
  • Thirdly, you can deseed the jalapenos to make it less spicy.
  • Fourth, you can control the spice level by the number of jalapenos you add to the margarita. This recipe as written is lightly spicy with 1/2 to 3/4 of one jalapeno added.
  • Lastly, If you want it really spicy, add an extra jalapeno or two or three! Fourth, if you want your margarita even spicier, you can use serrano peppers or habanero peppers instead of jalapenos.

Smooth Margarita.

  • Pour the margarita mix through a fine mesh strainer to remove any jalapeno seeds or mango fibers.

Variations

  • Frozen Mango Margarita. If you like frozen margaritas, then be sure to use frozen mangos in your margarita. You may need to add more crushed ice for the frozen margarita.
  • Mango Margarita On The Rocks. If you prefer your margaritas on the rocks instead of frozen, then use either fresh mangos or frozen mangos that have been thawed. Another option is to leave out the fresh mango and use mango juice or nectar instead.
  • Spicy Peach Margarita. Change up the fruit you use in the margarita. Instead of mangos, you can use peaches. Check out my Spicy Peach Margarita recipe with all the detailed instructions.
  • Triple Sec. If you prefer to use Triple Sec, you could use triple sec instead of mango nectar. Cointreau is a popular brand.
  • Mocktail Margarita. For a non-alcoholic margarita, you could leave out the tequila and use orange juice instead if you are looking for a mocktail version of this mango spice drink.
