Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Extra Creamy. While many recipes like this use sour cream to make the recipe creamy, I use cream cheese instead to make the chicken extra rich and creamy and when combined with the ranch seasoning, it has that fabulous ranch flavor..
- Versatile. This creamy ranch chicken can be served not only in taco shells or on corn tortillas, but you can top nachos, or serve it on top of a salad.
- Easy. This is an easy recipe that anyone can make using simple ingredients you likely already have in the refrigerator and pantry. It is perfect for a busy weeknight.
- Family Favorite. Keep everyone in the family happy by having a variety of toppings that they can choose from to customize their tacos. This way everyone can get their favorite toppings.
Why This Recipe Works
- Flexible. This recipe is very versatile and can be flexible to work around different schedules. Are you going to be gone all day? Set the slow cooker to 8 hours. Are you only out for the afternoon? Set the slow cooker for 4 hours.
- Customizable. Tacos are easy to customize because the toppings can be changed up to meet everyone’s taste preferences. That’s why I often recommend leaving the toppings off the tacos and instead serving them in a tacos bar so everyone can choose their taco toppings.

Ingredients
Below, I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions if you don’t have a specific ingredient. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.
For the Chicken:
- Boneless, Skinless, Chicken Breasts
- Cream Cheese
- Ranch Dressing Mix – the ranch mix gives that creamy chicken a delicious flavor.
- Taco Seasoning Mix – (Optional) – I have this as optional because some people don’t like spice, and others only want low sodium taco seasoning. Whether you use a packet of taco seasoning or make this DIY taco seasoning recipe, or omit it altogether.
- Chicken Broth or Chicken Stock.
For The Taco Toppings:
- Cheddar Cheese – I like to use some shredded cheddar cheese
- Limes – for a fresh squeeze of lime on your taco.
- Shredded Lettuce
- Chopped tomatoes
- Red onion
- Pico De Gallo
- Guacamole
How To Make Crock Pot Creamy Chicken
- Place the chicken in the bottom of the crockpot. Then cut the cream cheese into two pieces and place each part on a piece of chicken.
- Sprinkle the top with ranch dressing and pour the broth in the pan.
- Sprinkle with the shredded cheese and place the lid on the crockpot.
Set on high for 4 hours or low for 6.
To shred the chicken, you can use 2 forks, or a hand mixer works wonderfully, just place in the pan and mix for a minute or 2.
Add about 2-3 tablespoons of the Creamy Chicken Taco filling into a flour tortilla. Repeat for the remaining tortillas.
Recipe Tips
- Taco Toppings – Feel free to use my suggestions for taco toppings or serve it with your favorite taco toppings instead.
- Tortilla Options – Use your favorite tortillas, or wraps. These could be traditional four tortillas, corn tortillas, or green leaf lettuce for lettuce wraps.
Variations
- Low Carb – Serve this Creamy Ranch Chicken on top of a taco salad instead of as tacos. When combined with fresh leafy greens and pico de Gallo, it is both delicious and wholesome.
- Burrito Bowls – Turn the tacos into burrito bowls by serving the creamy ranch taco filling inside a burrito bowl and then load it up with your favorite taco toppings.
- Avocado Lime Ranch Tacos – Instead of using regular ranch seasoning, try adding Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing instead of the ranch seasoning mix.
What To Serve With Creamy Ranch Tacos
FAQs
Can I Use Frozen Chicken In A Crock Pot?
No. Per slow cooker and food safety guidelines from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, “always thaw meat or poultry before putting it into a slow cooker.”
This is important because otherwise, the chicken could be at an unsafe temperature for too long a period of time.
How To Store Leftover Slow Cooker Creamy Ranch Chicken?
Store any leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for 3 months.
Can I use Roast Chicken In the Tacos Instead?
Yes. You can use my Oven Roasted Chicken for the chicken filling of these tacos.
