Can I Make The Apple Pie Filling From Scratch?
- Absolutely! If you prefer not to use the canned apple pie filling, you can make your own apple pie filling from scratch by using this Apple Pie Filling recipe.
Directions
- Dump the apple pie filling in a large bowl. Sprinkle with cinnamon, and stir until all the apples are covered and the cinnamon is evenly distributed throughout the pie filling.
- Dump the cinnamon-spiced apple pie filling into a baking dish. Spread evenly so it is level and has the same thickness on all sides.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top of the apple pie filling mixture. Get it as even and level as possible.
- Dot the top of the cake mix with thin slices of very cold butter. It is very important to cover all the cake mix, otherwise you may have dry spots.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes or until the top of the cake is golden brown and the apple pie filling is bubbling around the sides.
- Let cool for 5 minutes while you get the toppings.

I didn’t have caramel sauce on hand so I decided to use some caramel bits, and I just ‘dumped’ them in with the apple filling. Oh my! That was super delicious!
