Ingredient Notes
Below, I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions if you don’t have a specific ingredient. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.
- Strawberry drink mix – You can use any brand of strawberry drink mix for this recipe. The recipe calls for 2 packets of strawberry drink mix.
- Pineapple sherbet – You’ll need 48 ounces of this sherbet. Another alternative to vary it up is to add raspberry sherbet, or even orange sherbet for an orange sherbet punch, or rainbow sherbet for a rainbow sherbet punch. The possibilities are endless.
- Cranberry ginger ale – You will need 2 liters for this punch. The cranberry ginger ale adds a little extra berry flavor for a fun twist to this sherbet punch, perfect for a holiday celebration! If you can’t find cranberry ginger ale, you can mix together cranberry juice and regular ginger ale instead. If you are instead serving it at a baby show or bridal shower, then you could use lemon-lime soda, or even hawaiian punch instead of the Cranberry ginger ale.
- Raspberries – These fresh tart berries cut through some of the sweetness from the other ingredients, especially if they’ve soaked in the punch for a bit, and also add a depth of color and brightness as a garnish to the drink too.
- Pineapple rings – Add these as a garnish to the drink as well. Canned pineapple rings are most convenient for this purpose.
- Pineapple juice – You will need 46 ounces of juice (about 3 ¾ cups). The pineapple juice adds a good amount of sweetness to this punch.
- Water – A simple yet important ingredient for this homemade sherbet punch. Use about 2 quarts (8 cups).
Instructions
- Place the strawberry drink mix into your punch bowl. Pour in the water and stir until dissolved. Stir in the pineapple juice and ginger ale.
- Place scoops of the sherbet into the punch bowl. Garnish with pineapple rings and raspberries. Serve immediately.
Pro Recipe Tips
- To keep the punch cold during the party, you can add an ice ring to the punch bowl.
- This homemade non-alcoholic New Year’s eve sherbet punch always tastes the best immediately after being made but you can also keep any leftovers in the refrigerator (removing any fresh fruit garnish that could spoil) or make it a couple of hours before to be stored in the fridge with the fresh fruit garnish added just prior to serving.
- Leftover non-alcoholic New Year’s eve sherbet punch could be poured in popsicle molds for some delicious frozen treats for the kids.
- When serving this sherbet punch in a pitcher, you will need to use a large volume pitcher or perhaps decant this sherbet punch into 2 pitchers, easily accessible to guests. Of course, I think that this strawberry sherbet punch looks the best in a large punch bowl.
- The cranberry ginger ale together with the strawberry sherbet is what gives this punch its deep pink-red color. No food colorants were used at all!
- Make sure that the water, pineapple juice, and ginger ale are chilled before assembling the punch. This will give the punch a delicious chill factor!
- If you intend to serve this punch to a larger crowd, simply double the recipe ingredients.
Recipe Variations
- Boozy Punch. Make a boozy New Year’s Eve sherbet punch for the adults! Vodka, white or spiced rum, or even whiskey would be delicious alcoholic additions to this punch. Start with 1 cup and taste to test, adding more depending on how strong you want the punch to be.
- Lemon-Lime Punch. You can use a lemon lime soda for this sherbet punch instead of the ginger ale if you’d prefer.
- Garnish Variations. Consider using different or additional garnishes for this New Year’s eve sherbet punch. This could be cranberries, lemon slices, pomegranate seeds, mint leaves, or a sprig of rosemary!
- Chill Baby Chill. Serve this sherbet punch chilled by adding some crushed ice or an ice ring to each glass of punch or frozen alcohol in the event of making a boozy punch.
- Frozen Variety. Use a different flavored sherbet such as lime or lemon instead of pineapple sherbet.
What To Serve With Holiday Punch With Sherbet
This homemade strawberry sherbet punch can be served with additional whole fruit such as strawberries, cranberries, and a thin wedge of pineapple on the rim of each glass as a decorative garnish.
Serve a shot or two of your favorite alcohol in each serving of this sherbet punch for a delicious cocktail.
You can also serve this homemade New Year’s Eve sherbet punch with crushed ice as a slushie.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)
HOW LONG DOES NON-ALCOHOLIC NEW YEAR’S EVE SHERBET PUNCH LAST?
This sherbet punch should always be stored immediately once made but leftovers can be stored for a couple of days in the refrigerator. You can store it in the punch bowl, tightly covered with plastic wrap, or you can transfer it to a sealable jug or glass jar.
The longer you leave your sherbet punch in storage, the more likely it will flatten in fizz since the fizz provided by the cranberry ginger ale will lessen in storage. That shouldn’t be a problem if you don’t mind less ‘fizz’, otherwise make sure to consume it as soon as possible.
If you don’t envisage being able to consume the leftovers over the next few days, consider turning it into popsicles for the kids (or for the adults if you’ve made this an alcoholic punch) which can then be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
CAN THIS STRAWBERRY SHERBET PUNCH BE MADE AHEAD OF TIME?
Yes, and no. There are certain elements of this punch that you can make ahead of time to save some time. Although this drink is so incredibly easy to make, it’s really only going to take you a matter of minutes to assemble from scratch.
The sherbet and water can be mixed the night before and stored in the refrigerator, as can the fruit garnishes (stored in separate components in the fridge) but I strongly recommend that you only add the cranberry ginger ale just prior to serving this punch to your guests otherwise you risk the sherbet punch losing its fizz.
CAN I MAKE A DIFFERENT SHERBET PUNCH USING THIS RECIPE?
Absolutely! You can definitely use the same ingredients called for in this recipe but change the flavor of sherbet used to something like lime or orange sherbet in place of the pineapple. It’ll taste just as delicious!
WHAT’S THE FROTH ON THE TOP LAYER OF THE PUNCH?
Don’t be alarmed…the froth that has emerged on the top of your homemade sherbet punch is a normal reaction when combining the sherbet mixture with fizzy substances such as the cranberry ginger ale!
It’s a fun visual effect that will slowly dissolve away the longer the punch sits which is another reason why I suggest mixing the drink just prior to serving it to your guests. You want to see their faces light up when they catch a first glimpse of this stunning New Year’s eve sherbet punch!
HOW SHOULD I SERVE THIS SHERBET PUNCH?
It’s always easiest to mix and serve this drink in a large punch bowl, allowing your guests to help themselves. You could also serve this sherbet punch in large pitchers or even cute mason glass jars that have drinking handles and add a few fruity garnishes on the rim of each glass.
How you serve this strawberry sherbet punch is really up to you and have much effort and time you’re willing to spend on it.

Brandi says
Having trouble finding strawberry juice mix packets? Crystal light individual packets?
Michele says
Hi Brandi,
I used Kool-Aid brand. However, you could use Crystal light, or Wyler’s or any brand of drink mix. If you can’t find strawberry, you could use cherry instead. That flavor is usually available. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Michele
Kim says
Is this truly sweet enough without adding sugar to the koolaid mix?
Michele says
Hi Kim,
It was sweet enough for me. The level of sweetness may depend on the drink mix that you use, but KoolAid mix is sweet. Then you also have sweetness added from the pineapple juice and the pineapple sherbet. However, the ideal level of sweetness varies by person. If you like it extra sweet, then feel free to add more sugar.
Thanks,
Michele
