Saltine Cracker Toffee is sometimes called Christmas crack because the sweet, salty, and sticky candy is so addictive!

However, it has many names. It is also called Cracker Toffee, Soda Cracker Toffee, Chocolate Saltine Toffee, or Chocolate Toffee Crackers.

This saltine cracker candy is a fun Christmas treat during the holiday season. I love to take it to Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, and more!

With white chocolate and milk chocolate, on buttery toffee crackers, it does make a delicious Christmas Crack recipe.

  • Saltine Crackers – I have always made this toffee with saltine crackers. However, you could make it with graham crackers, ritz crackers, or club crackers.
  • Butter – I used salted butter because it goes well in this recipe. If you are trying to control the amount of salt in your diet, I recommend using unsalted butter.
  • Sugar – I used part granulated sugar and part brown sugar.
  • Brown Sugar – Brown sugar gives it that rich color and sweet flavor.
  • Chocolate Chips – For presentation purposes, I like to use both white and dark chocolate chips. You can use either semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips if you prefer.
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Extras: Add nuts, sprinkles, toffee pieces, other candy pieces, crushed peppermint

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.
  2. When it comes to a rolling boil, boil for 3 minutes, a candy thermometer should read between 270 ° and 290° when it is ready.
9-photo collage showing each step of how to make Cracker toffee.
  1. Line the saltine crackers over the pan.
  2. Remove the butter and sugar mixture from the stove and pour over the crackers, spreading evenly.
  3. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the top with the chocolate chips. You may wish to place the pan back in the oven for a minute to help melt the chips.
  5. Spread the melted chocolate chips over the caramel.
  6. While the chocolate is melting, place the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe dish and microwave for 1 minute, stir till smooth, you may need an additional 10 to 20 seconds.
  7. Drizzle the white chocolate over the chocolate while the chocolate is still soft. Take a knife and run it through the white chocolate to make swirls in the chocolate.
  8. You can add any extra sprinkles or candies before the chocolate is set. Place the candy in the refrigerator for 30 minutes till completely set.
  9. Break into pieces before serving.

Pro Tips

  • Candy Thermometer – It’s best to use a candy thermometer to get the toffee just right.
  • Secret To Melting Chocolate – The trick is to add the chocolate chips immediately after the toffee crackers come out of the oven. You want to add the chocolate chips while the crackers are still hot because the heat from the crackers will melt the chocolate, and then you can easily spread the chocolate.

Variations

  • Vary The Type of Crackers Used – Instead of saltine crackers, you could use Ritz crackers, or Graham crackers, or club crackers.
  • Vary The Toppings– You can go crazy with toppings, such as crushed peppermint, chopped nuts, chopped candies, sprinkles, or more.
