What Is Burrata?

A burrata is a creamy cheese ball made with fresh mozzarella cheese but is considered a different type of cheese.

The creamy, buttery filling spreads out when you cut open a burrata ball. It makes an excellent creamy cheese for charcuterie boards.

Fresh burrata is a real treat, especially when paired with savory heirloom tomatoes, prosciutto, and other burrata charcuterie board ingredients.

With its creamy interior, a ball of burrata is served at room temperature and surrounded by charcuterie meats, like salami or prosciutto, one of our favorite appetizers.

What Is A Burrata Board?

Burrata Boards are charcuterie boards, cheese trays, or snacking boards that feature creamy burrata, which is the soft cheese that pairs well with prosciutto, and is often served with fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, seasonal fruits, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and a balsamic glaze!

Burrata Boards are likely to become one of your favorite new Appetizer Recipes.

Why You’ll Love This Burrata Board

  • Great For Entertaining – A burrata board is perfect for entertaining. It makes a delicious, self-serve appetizer tray that allows guests to serve themselves.
  • Easy – It is super easy to put together. You don’t have to bake anything.
  • Creative – You can get as creative as you like. Group brightly colored, fresh fruit together and create a beautiful board.

How To Serve Burrata On A Cheese Board

  1. Wash, dry, and prepare your fruit and vegetables. Slice, cube, and deseed fruit.
  2. Get your favorite board or large platter and place the burrata cheese in a small container in the middle, or open the burrata and spread it out in a line or in a swirl.
  3. Add rows of meat and fruit, or if you are using a round platter, randomly place fruit in groups and meat around the board. Add asparagus or basil and mint leaves for some different colors.
  4. Place the crackers and nuts around the board.
  5. Drizzle the burrata with olive oil and sprinkle it with pepper or chili powder.
  6. After the board is assembled, generously add a sprinkle of pepper.

Tips To Build Your Own Burrata Board

  • Be sure to use fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruit that can be eaten with your fingers. This includes berries, or fresh asparagus, cauliflower, or broccoli florets.
  • Fresh, crisp whole wheat crackers or bagel chips make a delicious, crispy dipper.
  • Add your favorite meats, such as prosciutto, salami, or similar meat.

Variations

Have different seasonal burrata board. You can vary the ingredients for each season.

For example, in the fall, instead of sliced peaches, you can use sliced apples, and instead of raspberries, it can be figs.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with crackers and let everyone just graze, or have small plates and let everyone dish up and eat with crackers.

You can also serve dips, marmalades, or jams on the side, such as this Homemade Ranch Dressing, or Homemade Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, or a Balsamic Glaze, like the Homemade Balsamic Glaze used in my Roasted Brussels Sprouts Recipe.
