Ingredients
Below, I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions if you don’t have a specific ingredient. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.
- Pork chops – Boneless. You could also use bone-in pork chops although they will take a little longer to cook. Using thicker pork chops will also ensure juicier air-fried chops.
- Olive oil – For coating the pork chops. It also helps the seasoning and Parmesan cheese stick to both sides of each pork chop.
- Kosher salt – You can also use table salt instead if that’s what you have on hand.
- Pepper
- Onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and ground mustard – These spices are responsible for the bursts of flavor in the pork chops. Cayenne pepper could also be added for a slight kick of heat.
- Parmesan cheese – For the best results, shred finely for the best coating. Shredding the cheese from a fresh block of cheese will provide the best taste. You can also use other cheese instead of parmesan.
How To Air Fry Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops
- In a small bowl, combine the salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, mustard, and parmesan cheese.
- Coat the pork chops in olive oil. Press the pork chops in the parmesan coating and press on all sides till well coated.
- Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray. Place pork chops in the basket and place in the air fryer.
- Place the basket in the air fryer and set for 375°. Cook for 4 minutes, flip and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness. Cook for an additional 2 minutes if needed.
Recipe Tips
- Use a Meat Thermometer. The only way to truly know if the pork chops are fully cooked is to use a meat thermometer. When the internal temperature of the pork chops reaches 145 degrees F, then they are done.
- Pan Fry. If you don’t have an air fryer you can still fry your pork chops in oil in a pan or bake them at 350F in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Cooking times will vary based on the cooking method and the thickness of the pork chops.
- Don’t Overdo Cooking Spray. You only need to spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray or a brush of olive oil. No need to overdo it.
- Space Them Out. Spread the pork chops out on the air fryer basket with adequate space between them so that they can crisp evenly without overcrowding. You may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer basket and how many pork chops you intend to make.
- Reheating Leftovers. Leftover stored air fryer pork chops should be reheated in the oven, covered with aluminum foil, to prevent them from drying out.
- Flip. Flipping the pork chops halfway through the air frying cook time will ensure that you get a beautiful crispy crunch on both sides of the chops.
- Don’t Overcook. Remember that meat tends to cook very quickly in an air fryer. To keep the meat moist, be careful not to overcook it. Use the cook times of the recipe as a guide since every air fryer is a little different.
- Use Meat Thermometer. If you aren’t sure whether the pork chops have cooked completely, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chop to check for doneness. The temperature should register at 145F for it to be safe to eat.
- Refrigerate. These pork chops can be prepared ahead of time by seasoning them in the morning and storing them in the refrigerator until ready to cook for dinner that evening.
Variations
- For smokey air fryer pork chops – combine chili powder, ground coriander, dry mustard, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, ground cumin, and cayenne pepper.
- For air fryer Italian pork chops – season with Italian seasoning.
- For air fryer ranch pork chops – use a ranch seasoning mix.
- For air fryer BBQ pork chops – generously coat the cooked chops with store-bought or homemade BBQ sauce. Warm the sauce up before coating the cooked chops.
- Bone-in pork chops can be used instead of boneless chops but then you will need to add about 2-3 minutes extra to the cooking time and possibly even an additional minute if the chops are thicker than what I’ve used.
- Thicker Pork Chops. Use a thicker pork chop if you enjoy ultra juicy meat. 1 ½ inch thickness is perfect for succulent pork chops that won’t taste dry.
What To Serve With Air Fryer Pork Chops
These air fryer pork chops pair beautifully with mashed potatoes with gravy or white rice. You could also add a side of roasted vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, or a light green salad.
FAQs
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY PORK IS COOKED THROUGH?
The last thing you want is to be serving undercooked pork to your guests or family! If you’re unsure whether your pork is cooked through, take a meat thermometer and test the pork by inserting the thermometer into the thickest section.
The internal temperature of the pork should register 145℉ for the meat to be safe to eat.
HOW SHOULD I STORE THESE AIR FRYER PORK CHOPS?
You can store leftover air-fried pork chops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
You also have the option of freezing these air-fried pork chops for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator prior to reheating in the air fryer, in the oven, microwave, or in a heated skillet.
CAN I COOK MY PORK CHOPS FROM FROZEN IN THE AIR FRYER?
I recommend that you fully defrost any frozen raw pork chops before cooking them in an air fryer as this will ensure that the pork is properly cooked.
CAN I USE BONE-IN PORK CHOPS FOR THIS RECIPE?
Yes, you can. Since bone-in meat cooks slower, you will need to add some extra time to the cooking if you decide to use bone-in pork chops.
CAN I LINE THE AIR FRYER BASKET WITH PARCHMENT PAPER?
Yes! If you’d prefer to use parchment paper instead of coating the basket with oil, make sure that you use perforated parchment paper so that air can be circulated throughout the air fryer.
