There is something about meatballs that make everything better, including pizza, and pizza is already my family’s favorite food.

Who doesn’t love meatball pizza for dinner?! Especially this meatball pizza with lots of Italian flavors like parmesan, garlic, basil, and oregano. Friday night Pizza night has never been better!

View of whole Meatball pizza cut into 8 slices, with green parsley in the back with a red and white checkered napkin on the left and a sack of white plates on the right.

We love meatballs because I’ve shared recipes for Meatballs with Grape Jelly and Chili Sauce, Chicken Parmesan Meatballs, Baked Italian Meatballs, and many other meatball recipes.

What goes better with meatballs than pizza! They are a match made in heaven. This Meatball Pizza has a crisp crust around the edges, savory Marinara Sauce or pizza sauce, and gooey melted mozzarella cheese make an irresistible pizza!

Why You’ll Love Meatball Pizza

  • Italian Flavor – Seasoned pizza meatballs, with garlic, parmesan, and more, when combined with pizza sauce, melty mozzarella cheese, and a crispy crust loaded with delicious savory flavor. The meatballs truly enhance the pizza flavor. It is one of our favorite easy recipes.
  • Handheld Dinner – Holding a slice of pizza in your hand makes dinner fun and yummy.
  • Kid-Friendly – This is a dinner the whole family will love, including the kids. This may become your children’s favorite dinner!

On the bottom left is a small bowl of grated parmesan cheese and a hand is pulling a slice of pizza away from the rest of the pizza.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Tried and True Recipe – This Meatball Pizza recipe has been made and taste-tested dozens of times by my family and me and so you can trust that this recipe works. This is one of our favorite pizza recipes.
  • Seasoned Meatballs – The Italian meatballs, in my opinion, make this recipe. Yes, you can eat pizza without meatballs, but it is so much better with them.

Instructions

Make The Meatballs

4-photo collage showing the 4 steps of how to make meatballs for the meatball pizza.
  1. Place the ground beef, egg, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, basil, and oregano in a large bowl. Mix well to combine.
  2. Roll 2 tablespoons of the meatball mixture in your hands to form a ball. Place the meatball on the prepared parchment paper-lined sheet pan, ensuring that it does not touch any other meatballs. Repeat with the remaining meat mixture.
  3. Bake for 12-15 minutes at 425°F, or until the meatballs are golden brown, and reach 165°F internal temperature.
  4. Remove the pan from the oven and it let cool on the counter while you prepare the crust.
  5. While the dough is baking, slice the meatballs in half and set them aside.

Prepare The Pizza Crust

2-photo collage showing pizza dough spread out on a pizza tray and on the right the dough after it has been poked with a fork all over the pizza.
  1. Lightly spray a 14-inch pizza pan with cooking spray. Add one of the pizza dough balls into the center of the pan. Gently stretch it out to be the same size as the pan. If the dough is shrinking back, let the dough rest for 5 minutes and then stretch it out again.
  2. Pierce the dough all over with a fork, and brush ½ tablespoon of olive oil over the dough. Bake the dough for 10 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  3. Remove the dough from the oven.

Assemble The Pizza

6-photo collage showing the steps of how to assemble the meatball pizza.
  1. Start with the baked pizza crust.
  2. Spread ½ cup pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a half-inch border along the edge.
  3. Top with ¼ of the cheese.
  4. Add half of the sliced meatball halves.
  5. Top with another ¼ of the cheese.
  6. Sprinkle ½ teaspoon dried oregano on top and ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder. Add any other optional toppings you like.

Bake The Pizza

Close up of pizza after it has been cooked and sliced, and someone is starting to pull one slice of pizza away from the rest of the meatball pizza.
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edge of the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
  2. Let the pizza sit for 5 minutes before cutting. Repeat all steps with the remaining ingredients to make the second pizza.

Recipe Tips

  • Meatballs. If you don’t want to make meatballs from scratch, you can use frozen meatballs. Prepare them per the package instructions.
  • Marinara Sauce – You can use Marinara Sauce or Spaghetti Sauce for the Pizza sauce if you like. I like to use my homemade Marinara Sauce recipe.

Variations

  • Toppings – Add your favorite pizza toppings, such as sliced bell peppers, onions, red pepper flakes, ricotta cheese, and pepperoni.
  • Pizza Dough – Make your own pizza crust by making homemade pizza dough from scratch.

What To Serve With Meatball Pizza

Serve the Meatball pizza with a nice salad, soup, and if you prefer, chicken wings.

  • Chopped Vegetable Salad
  • Minestrone Soup
  • Italian Wedding Soup
  • Honey Hot Wings

Notes

This recipe makes 2 medium pizzas.

Recipe Tips

  • Meatballs. If you don’t want to make meatballs from scratch, you can use frozen meatballs. Prepare them per the package instructions. Another option is to crumble the meatball mix in a large skillet over medium heat until no pink remains, about 10 minutes. Then, add half of this mixture over the pizza instead of cutting whole meatballs.
