This sweet and salty fall snack mix is perfect for watching the big game or a fun Halloween snack mix for a Halloween party!

This Fall Trail Mix is so easy to make that even the kids could help. You can make one big batch or provide a small bowl for each guest to create their snack mix with only their favorite snacks.

It’s such a delicious treat with fall color and chocolate candies that it is better than any store-bought snack mixes. If you enjoyed my Muddy Buddies Chex Mix, then you’ll love this snack mix with fall flavors.

Last year, I made this Halloween snack mix when we invited a few friends over for Halloween and a scary movie night. Everyone loved it, and I will be making it again this year.

Why You’ll Love This Snack Mix

  • Sweet Candy – Candies, such as Rolos, M&Ms, sweet candy pumpkins, and candy corn, provide plenty of sweetness to this trail mix. The fall color of the candy makes a perfect fall mix.
  • Salty Snacks – Peanuts, pretzels, pretzel sticks, cereal, and popcorn add salty ingredients for a great combination and a perfect salty mix. Combining the salty snacks with the candy makes a Fall Harvest Chex Mix.
  • Crunchy – Texture is very important in a snack mix, and this one has plenty of crunchy ingredients to provide that crunchy texture.
  • Fun Snack – This is a colorful, fun snack for kids and adults alike.
  • Easy Recipe – This recipe is as easy as it can get.
  • No Bake – No baking is required for this easy snack mix. Just combine and serve for an amazing fall treat!

Ingredient Notes

Below, I discuss the ingredients and possible substitutions if you don’t have a specific ingredient. However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.

  • Chex—I used a combination of rice and corn Chex. However, you can use any Chex flavor, such as chocolate Chex Mix. Any cereal mixture will work.
  • Pretzels (white chocolate, chocolate, plain) – I used all types of pretzels, including chocolate-covered and white chocolate-covered pretzels. You can even get bat and pumpkin-shaped pretzels!
  • Candy corn – If it’s Fall, you gotta have that sweet, orange, and yellow candy corn! However, if you are not a fan of candy corn, you can leave it out or substitute it with your favorite candy.
  • Candy pumpkins – Nothing says Fall like candy pumpkins! 🙂
  • Peanut M&Ms – I love peanut M&Ms, but you could use regular M&Ms.
  • Regular M&Ms (I used orange and cream)
  • Rolos candy—Rolo candies are so good and perfect in this mix. However, Reese’s pieces could also work.
  • Caramel popcorn (I used Werther’s Original)
  • Peanuts – Plain roasted peanuts

How To Make Sweet and Salty Fall Snack Mix

4-photo collage showing the steps for making Fall Snack Mix.
  1. Place ingredients in separate bowls. You can combine them or leave them as a snack buffet for your guests to create their own personalized snack mix.
  2. To combine everything in a large bowl, start by adding the caramel corn and M&Ms.
  3. Add pretzels, candy corn, orange and cream-colored M&Ms, and chocolate-covered pretzels.
  4. Lastly, add Rolos, and white chocolate-covered pretzels.
  5. Stir and serve.

Recipe Tips

Perfect Combination – The combination of sweet and salty flavors, as well as crunchy textures, makes this snack mix successful. You want a lovely sweet, salty, and crunchy flavor and texture in every bite of the snack mix!

Variations

  • Candy Swap – Swap out the candies for your favorite ones. For example, instead of Rolos, use Reese’s pieces, Peanut Butter cups, or chocolate chips.
  • Cereal Swap – Instead of Chex cereal, rice chex or corn chex, try cocoa puffs, Cheerios, Captain Crunch, or your favorite cereal.
  • Marshmallows—For a change of taste, add mini marshmallows. You can also add regular or pumpkin-flavored marshmallows or any flavor of marshmallows that you like.

Serving Suggestions

A third option is to serve the mix on a large tray and let people pick and choose the candy or snack they want.

Serve it in one big bowl for guests to enjoy.

Another option is to serve each ingredient in separate bowls and allow guests to create their own personal snack mix that is unique to them.

Storage

Storing:  You can store this snack mix at room temperature in an airtight container, such as glass jars with lids, or bowls with lids.
