It was 6:00 pm when I got home from work. Hubby came home a few minutes later. He was hungry, asking what’s for dinner and when will it be ready. My immediate thought was “I have no idea.” That was our house last night. You too? Let me share with you what I did.
I looked in the fridge and had a pound of Johnsonville Mild Italian Sausage, and a package of refrigerated pizza dough. I went online and used the ingredient search on Allrecipes.com and found the Johnsonville recipe collection on AllRecipes.com and the Easy Sausage Pizza By Johnsonville. We love pizza! It says it can be ready in 30 minutes. I have all the ingredients. Hurray! I tell hubby we’re having pizza for dinner. Cool! How long will it take? 30 minutes. A few grumbles but ok.
The name is right. It is easy. Per the directions on the refrigerated pizza dough, I preheated the oven to 450 degrees. I covered a baking pan with foil, sprayed it with cooking spray, and rolled out the refrigerated pizza dough. Oops. I tore it, but no worries. Just press it together and it is fine. I popped the pizza dough in the oven to pre-bake for about 7 minutes.
While the dough is baking, in a large skillet I browned the italian sausage, and sprinkled it with a little crushed red pepper. Once the sausage was browned I then added chopped onions and red and green bell peppers and cooked for about another 5 minutes. The onions and red bell peppers were my additions. I added the marinara sauce to the meat sauce instead of just pouring it on the pizza dough.
I spread the meat mixture evenly over the dough, and sprinkled shredded cheese over the top. I used half mozzarella and half cheddar (since I was running low on mozzarella.)
I baked it for about 10 minutes or until the cheese was melted. It was not pretty but tasted fantastic! Hubby said he definitely wanted me to make this one again.
Cut it with a pizza cutter or sharp knife and serve. For the full recipe, go to the Easy Sausage Pizza by Johnsonville recipe on Allrecipes.com.
That is my solution for a quick, easy and delicious weeknight dinner. Try it tonight!
