Easy Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread is a dense, buttery, golden, semi-sweet cornbread that goes well with soups, chowders, gumbo, chili, chicken, roasts, and red beans and rice; and any other comfort food you can think of.

Easy Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread

I LOVE cornbread! If I could only have one food for the rest of my life, I would choose cornbread. If you have an iron skillet, then you should definitely make cornbread.  Even if you don’t have an iron skillet, you should make cornbread.  It is just that good!

Easy Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread

Golden buttery cornbread goes so well with soup, stew, beans, pork, and pretty much everything, especially during cold weather.  It is a wonderful comfort food.

However, if you are looking for the traditional southern cornbread. This recipe is not it. This recipe is sweeter. To me, it is not as sweet as cornbread served in Northern states, but it is definitely sweeter than the Southern cornbread that has no sugar.

Easy Homemade Buttermilk Cornbread

Since I don’t have a cast iron skillet, I bake the cornbread in an 8×8 square pan. However, if you have a cast iron skillet, I recommend baking the cornbread in that.  This cornbread is so easy to make, I see no reason to use a cornbread mix. There is no need to consume the extra additives and preservatives.

Go ahead and make this cornbread. It is so easy that anyone can make it. It is perfect side dish during cold weather.

We love cornbread here at my house. You can’t leave your plate with it on it within Lola’s reach. It is the only thing she has ever stolen off of a plate. Silly dogs! She loves her cornbread.

My favorite way to eat cornbread is with a big bowl of chili! Extra butter on my slice too 🙂

      Hi Annie,

The difference is this website is not owned by a corporation but an individual … me. I do my best to provide good customer services, and I love receiving the feedback on my recipes.

The only things I ask are to 1) please return again and check out our other recipes, 2) share with friends on social media. That way you are supporting a small family business.

      Thanks for your support.

My family LOVES your recipe so much it has become a standard, go to recipe in our house. I’m from Texas and we have recipes with sugar and without sugar here. I prefer this one! I was wondering though how would I need to adjust it for Muffins?

      Hi Natalie,

Im so happy that you and your family love this cornbread. To make muffins, you can use the same recipe and use a muffin tin instead of a baking dish.

      Thanks,
      Michele
