How To Make Broccoli Tortellini Alfredo
It is really easy to make this Broccoli Tortellini Alfredo. Seriously, it can be on the table in about 20 minutes.
- Boil the tortellini and broccoli together in a large pot water.
- Drain the tortellini and broccoli and place into a serving bowl.
How To Make Alfredo Sauce
While the tortellini and broccoli are boiling, you will make the alfredo sauce. Many people are afraid of making this sauce from scratch, but it is very easy to make.
- In a large skillet over medium low heat, add the butter and stir until it melts.
- Add the flour and stir with the butter until it makes like a paste.
- Add the minced garlic and stir for about a minute.
- Then slowly pour in the heavy cream and continue stirring until the butter flour paste is dissolved into the heavy cream.
- Add the salt, pepper, and Italian Seasoning and stir.
- Stir in the shredded parmesan cheese.
- Pour the sauce over the cheese tortellini and broccoli in the bowl and stir.
- Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or basil as a garnish (optional)
Tips For Making A Perfect Alfredo Sauce
- Don’t leave the Alfredo sauce unattended. You need to watch it closely and stir frequently.
- Don’t let the butter burn. This goes hand and hand with the first tip. If the butter burns, throw it out and start over.
- Stir the flour constantly and don’t let it clump. Break up flour clumps as you stir. No one wants bites of raw flour in their Alfredo sauce.
- Don’t add the heavy cream too quickly. Pour it slowly allowing the butter and flour mixture to blend in with the heavy cream.
- Use fresh parmesan cheese and not the canned grated fake parmesan. You will taste a world of difference and have a better tasting Alfredo sauce.
Variations on Broccoli Tortellini Alfredo
Chicken. An easy way to add some additional protein and flavor to the recipe is to add some cooked chicken. I think it would be especially good with my Cajun Blackened Chicken or Rotisserie Chicken Breast Tenders or just use either store-bought rotisserie chicken.
Salmon. Another variation that we love is to add our Cajun Blacken Salmon to the Broccoli Tortellini Alfredo for a spicy yet healthy additional protein.
Other Vegetables. You can add other vegetables, such as spinach, asparagus, or carrots, either in addition to the broccoli or in lieu of broccoli if you are not a fan of broccoli.
