However, if you are looking for the specific measurements of each ingredient, scroll down to the bottom of this article, just above the comments, for the printable recipe card, which includes all the ingredients and the specific amounts of each one.
- Butter: For best results, use unsalted butter that’s softened to room temperature.
- Eggs: Start with room temperature eggs.
- Chocolate Chips: Milk chocolate is classic, but feel free to experiment with dark chocolate, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate chips, or chocolate chunks.
- Flour: All-purpose flour is the standard for cookies. Don’t overmix the dough to prevent tough cookies.
How to Make the Skillet Cookie
Prep your skillet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch skillet.
Cream the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
Stir in half of the chocolate chips.
Add the cookie dough into the prepared skillet and press into an even layer. Sprinkle with the remaining chocolate chips.
Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
Serve: Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Recipe Tips
- Don’t overbake: Overbaking will result in a dry cookie. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
- For extra gooeyness: Let the cookie cool for a shorter amount of time before serving.
- Prevent burning: If the edges of the cookie are browning too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
Variations
- Nutty goodness: Add chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds to the cookie dough.
- Salty-sweet: Sprinkle sea salt flakes over the hot cookie for a delightful contrast.
- Double chocolate: Use both milk and dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor.

Great idea. I used an 8 in round cake pan instead of the skillet. It turned out fine in 25 minutes. Perfect desert for 3 to 4 people.
